Nature of work

The main and usual role of the employee in this class of employment is either to provide technical assistance to the various departments of the school board, mainly by carrying out research, by drawing up plans and by drawing up estimates. , by collecting and providing the basic data necessary for professional staff and managers of the various departments, to be responsible for the operation of equipment related to building mechanics.

Characteristic Attributes

In the field of building mechanics, she is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection and installation of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration and control systems; it carries out the required operations of calibration, adjustment, modification and programming of the pneumatic and electronic controls. It coordinates the technical work of the preventive maintenance of the mechanical systems, it carries out the regular inspections and the tests of operation required; she sees to it that the repairs are carried out or carries out them if necessary; it makes the necessary recommendations for major repairs or improvements required; it participates in the development and maintenance of the physical inventory of mechanical services and the bank of spare parts necessary for a safe operation of the systems. It studies, proposes energy conservation programs and water, applies them or enforces them when they are approved.

It may be required to initiate less experienced technicians and coordinate the work of support staff in the tasks performed by such personnel in carrying out technical operations programs for which they are responsible. .

If necessary, she performs other related tasks, such as:

It sees to the application of the recognized professional techniques and makes sure that the projects for which it is in charge respect the standards, in particular in the field of health and safety (ex: asbestos).

She may be asked to select and purchase some specialized materials at the request of the workers.

She acts as a resource person for professionals such as architects and engineers.

It ensures that all documents issued during construction projects meet the criteria of Material Resources and are archived according to the Service’s standards.

It carries out investment projects alone or in connection with existing technicians.

Qualifications required


Hold a college diploma in building engineering technology or hold a diploma or a certificate of studies recognized as equivalent by the University of Ottawa. competent authority.
